The personal messages I have received since I started sharing my writing are small reasons for joy in my inbox. When you reach out and meet my vulnerability with that of your own, there is connection...the raw, authentic kind....this fuels my motherhood SOUL. If you feel a personal connection to my words, please message me, and I WILL respond!

Hi, I'm Alicia Assad.

I am a Wife and Mom of Four

who is following her calling

to be a Storyteller.

I write and coach on

Resilience

& Motherhood

because...

I've studied

POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY

I earned a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) degree at The University of Pennsylvania.

HOLISTIC HEALTH

I studied and worked at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

I've been a

PROFESSIONAL DANCER

I kicked eye-high as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall.

BEAUTY QUEEN

Once upon a time, I was Miss New Jersey and walked the Miss America runway. I realize this title comes with stereotypes (don't pretend you didn't just judge me), but it was an amazing experience that I learned A LOT from.

Just for fun, I've

RUN TWO MARATHONS

NYC 2006 & 2009

SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS ON A YOGA MAT

You name the style, I've practiced it.

I love to

COOK & GARDEN

I am passionate about healthy food, but I eat just about EVERYTHING, and I don't believe in diets...

READ SELF-HELP BOOKS

I hoard them like some women collect shoes. Amazon one-click has only fueled this addiction.

This means

I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT HAPPINESS,HEALTH, & WELLNESS.

I assumed my experience and knowledge about "wellness" would guarantee success in motherhood, so when I first saw two blue lines on a stick, I set the intention of being the most healthy, perfect, and happy mom EVER.

What I want you to know is....

MOTHERHOOD CAME ALONG AND KNOCKED THE WIND OUT OF MY PERFECTION SAILS

My lofty goals left me wallowing in failure and as a new mom, I was UNHAPPY. But that's when I started writing to cope, and word-by-word I pieced myself back together with more realistic goals for wellbeing in life and motherhood.

I STRIVE TO BE RESILIENT

(NOT PERFECT OR HAPPY ALL OF THE TIME).

I likely would have gone on writing and contemplating resilience for my own sanity, but one night I ended up in an ICU Burn Unit with my toddler son. At the time I was 36 weeks along in a high-risk pregnancy and had a 4-year-old daughter at home. What began as a blog to keep my friends and family updated on our "crisis" became a conversation I have continued about how we can not only survive what is hard, but thrive in the aftermath of adversity.
